5 Reasons to Have A Wedding Photography Consultation
Hiring a wedding photographer is not an easy job. They are a thousand of wedding photographers out here in DFW area and you need to pick one, or two, to take pictures of your wedding. Not only that, you will spend roughly 2 grands for hiring this guy just for 8 hours!!! Decision Decision Decision.
After a couple weeks of choosing wedding photographers, you came down to three photographers. Well, it's still not easy. if making a decision what to eat for lunch is already difficult for you, this job would take forever.
That's why you should have a consultation with the photographers. You can either do by phone or meet in person.
To meet with the photographer.
Imagine on the wedding day, you will have to spend 8-12 hours with this person. Meeting allows you to know the photographers personality. Is he/she funny or too serious? The photographer might do a great job in photography but probably not the person you want to work with. Let's get to know each other a little bit more!
To understand the wedding contract.
It's very important for clients to understand the contract from the photographer you want to hire. I always explain my contract to the client and also bring a hard copy for them to home and read. Being transparency is very important.
To negotiate the price.
MONEY TALK. Photographers tend to give you discount when you meet with them for consultation. IMO, I feel the couple is serious about hiring me that's why they spend time to have coffee with me. Then, I REALLY want to work with them too. You should have the HONESTLY budget for wedding photography in your mind and let the photographer know. The photographers are willing to customize the package for you.
To know what you will get form the photographer.
Do you want all the digital files? Do you want physical album? Do you need more than 8 hours of photography coverage? Tell the photographers what you want and they will customize the package for you. The standard package on the website is just the product from what average clients want.
To help you make the decision easier.
After the consultation, you should have a clearer picture about the photographer with all the information you needed. I always tell my client that you do not need to make decision today. Please take it back home, talk with your partner, and let me know whenever you are ready. Choosing a wedding photographer is one big decision when you will eventually have to show these pictures to your grand kids.
The consultation should take 30 minutes to an hour. You should have to pressure whom you will pick to be your photographer from the consultation. You should go back home with all the information that will help you make the decision easier.
